News just in...
Unfortunately, due to the recent bad weather and poor forecast ahead, spectators will no longer be welcomed on this event. As many of you will know, the land owners of both Lowther stages, the Lowther family, also promote a large horse driving trial during the summer. This years event was due to run last weekend from friday until the sunday but was cancelled on the saturday evening due to the state of the grounds. The Lowther family are obviously concerned that the same situation will occur this coming weekend, so have therefore requested that we no longer allow spectator access to either of the Lowther stages.
As many of you will appreciate, this puts the organising team into a very awkward situation. A situation that we would much rather not be in!
So, the solution...
Well, there really is only one viable solution considering the time we have remaining before the event. If you want to watch cars competing you will have to come to marshal.
We have three options available:
Warcop; sign on is at 6.45AM and it will be arrowed off the A66 near Warcop village, grid ref 91/760155. Marshals will be expected to remain in their specified location until the final stage has been completed. This should be at 7.30PM providing all goes to plan. Spectators are striclty forbidden on the Warcop ranges; due to the extra pressures caused by the late cancellation of the spectator stage, millitary personnel will be manning all the Warcop range access points this year. Camera's are also strictly forbidden; I think the fine is somewhere in the region of £1500 but don't quote me!
Lowther Wildlife Park; sign on is at 8AM, access is from the A6, Hackthorpe village, grid ref 90/537230. Marshals will be expected to remain in their specified location until the final stage has been completed. This should be at 3.30PM providing all goes to plan.
Lowther Park; sign on is at 8AM, access is from Lowther Village, via Hackthorpe and the A6, grid ref 90/528236. Marshals will be expected to remain in their specified location until the final stage has been completed. This should be at 4.30PM providing all goes to plan.
If you plan to come and marshal and have not done so before, please be aware of the following:
We expect you to arrive at sign on at a specific time, not midway through the running of the stage.
Once signed on, you will be assigned to a junction, you will be expected to remain there until the final running of the stage has been completed by the course closer.
You will then be expected to help the organising team to clear the stage furniture by collecting the stakes/arrows/boards/tape from your location and depositing it at the finish of the stage.
Marshals are not permitted to take photo's.
Marshalling on a stage is an entertaining and rewarding experience; if you haven't tried it before, please feel free to join us!
Please spread the word...
